Mail Myself to You

A flat lay of letters bearing international air markers. A pink paper heart rests atop them.

NEW DOCS

Director Imogen Pranger’s film offers a visually pithy primer on postal art. Cleverly and precisely constructed, this animated short presents a colorful introduction to the medium of correspondence art—in which artists exchange works using the postal service as a means of forging community—via the Mail Art Collection housed in the Art Library at Oberlin College. Through a mix of collage, archival footage, and audio interviews, we learn the importance of this tangible ephemera in creating community and the motivations for preserving it as an art form. Plucky sound design and a sweet rendition of Woody Guthrie’s classic may leave you humming a tune and heading to the nearest post office for a stamp or two.  WM
