NEW DOCS

In the late 1960s, renowned Associated Press foreign correspondent John Roderick acquired a run-down 250-year-old farmhouse in central Japan and, with the help of his young friend and adopted son, Yoshihiro Takishita, moved it to Kamakura, near Tokyo. The massive timbered house became both Roderick’s base during the years he covered Mao’s rule in China and the home of Takishita, who went on to become an architect specializing in the restoration of old houses. This documentary short, based on Roderick’s memoir of his home, takes us on an intimate tour of the farmhouse and the cherished memories that it holds. With spectacular cinematography capturing the architectural beauty of the house, the film is an evocative meditation on the meaning of home.  SM
