Notes on the Other

NEW DOCS

“Sometimes entire stories are based on fraud,” states the narrator of Notes on the Other. This thought-provoking short speculates on the origins of the adventurous persona Ernest Hemingway adopted early on in his career. Could the story of Hemingway be based on fraud? And what about the many men who flock to Key West every summer for the annual Ernest Hemingway look-alike contest, intoning the mantra, I am him? Are they donning a persona when they dress like Hemingway or does looking like the famous author give their lives an added dimension of reality? The film’s tantalizing questions offer an interesting perspective on borrowed identity.  NT
