Objectified

Invited

From potato peelers to iPhones, every manufactured item we use has a person behind it. Gary Hustwit’s film brings us behind the scenes of our material world and introduces us to those who have created it, challenging the notion that industrial design is just about form, function, and material. It’s also about people—how we live; how we might live better; how we connect, both physically and emotionally, to mass-produced objects. And as designers take on the challenge of sustainability, it’s increasingly about how we connect to the environment. Interviews with industrial design gurus Jonathan Ive of Apple, Dieter Rams of Bruan, and Karim Rashid, among others, demonstrate that every object has a story to tell. Providing insight into these designers’ view of our consumer culture, Objectified is as crisp and clean as the designs it features.  SB
