An experimental masterpiece, Our Song to War is a lyrical impression of land, water, and vestiges of war in a Colombian village. The people of Bojayá experienced a massacre in 2002, when Colombia’s extended armed conflict trapped civilians in intense violence, killing over 100 people. Superb cinematography brings us directly into the overgrown greenery and ruins of a riverbank community. Children relate their stories of the river, the village, and lost family members; their visit to the town’s graveyard is at once playful and heartbreaking. Women’s vocal music from a novenario service provides a profound accompaniment to an allusive commemoration of a troubled past.  NK
