Papa

NEW DOCS

This filmmaker’s endearing family portrait focuses on his father who, at nearly 80 years old, is struggling with neuropathy, a debilitating disease of the central nervous system. But the illness is only part of his struggle with loss of vitality and manhood, which is most poignantly realized when his flirtation with a younger woman goes unrequited. Suicide is the next step and the most active thing he can do, but his loving family, including his wife, will hear nothing of it. The entire family is full of dignity, humor and courage, as is this lovely film.
