Paper City

NEW DOCS

In March 1945, the U.S. firebombed Tokyo, destroying a quarter of the city and killing 100,000 people. Among the survivors were Hiroshi Hoshino, Michiko Kiyooka, and Minoru Tsukiyama. More than 70 years later, memories of their families, friends, and homes—and the horrors of that night—are as vivid as ever, even as others are forgetting. Director Adrian Francis’s thoughtful film follows Hiroshi, Michiko, and Minoru as they fight to keep the memory of their experiences alive. While the three work tirelessly to get signatures for their petitions, speak at schools and gatherings, and do the hard work of lobbying for reparations and a national memorial for the survivors, it is clear that passionate activism knows no age.  WFM
