Roger & Me

Thematic Power of Ten Curated by Julia Reichert

A hilarious and dogged spokesman for the working class attempts to talk to the man at the top of the GM food chain. With his first film, Michael Moore kicked out the jams of a documentary field that had become a tad comfortable. Roger & Me is a bitter, smart shout against capitalist hegemony by a then-unknown, punk rocker who crashed the documentary party. The film came out of a contemporary working-class experience and voice and showed that a blue-collar attitude was smart, used humor to get by, and smelled bullshit from a mile away.
