Saint Misbehavin’: The Wavy Gravy Movie
NEW DOCS
If you weren’t tuned in during the sixties and seventies—or even alive—you probably think Wavy Gravy is just a popular ice-cream flavor at Ben and Jerry’s. Director Michelle Esrick re-introduces us to the man himself, dusting off this iconic hippy prankster’s story with a reminder of why his particular brand of idealism was, and still is, pertinent. From his days as a poet and friend of Bob Dylan, Ken Kesey, and Tiny Tim to his hilarious appointment as head of security at Woodstock to his travels across America with his free-wheeling commune known as “The Hog Farm,” Wavy Gravy’s upbeat wackiness and activism have always been full of humor and purpose. The film features great music, rare archival footage, and Woodstock stories you’ve never heard. Did you think just anyone could get his own ice-cream flavor? RYS
