Secret Tapes

NEW DOCS

Poland’s communist government filmed dissidents as part of an effort to intimidate and control political opposition; these efforts failed with the ascendance of the Solidarity movement. In Secret Tapes, surveillance films made by the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs from 1966 to 1985 form their own documentary history of the decline of a paranoid regime. Former secret service operatives are chilling with their pride in accurate filmmaking and hidden cameras, but one notices the exponential growth in numbers of protesters. One of the creepiest films of all time.  NK
