Selena y Los Dinos

The singer Selena smiles broadly under a row of stage lights.

NEW DOCS

As the queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla continues to have a lasting influence on today’s culture through her legacy and music. Her vocal talent was recognized early on by her father and nurtured in the family band, Selena y Los Dinos. In Selena y Los Dinos, previously unseen home movies and footage of her iconic musical performances chronicle Selena’s meteoric rise from singing in her family’s restaurant to performing for a sold-out crowd at the Houston Astrodome. Selena’s presence as a musical talent is undeniably charismatic, and behind-the-scenes clips of more candid moments on tour highlight the deep bonds she shared with her band and her family. Though Selena’s life was tragically cut short, director Isabel Castro’s thoughtful assembly of archival material and interviews with the Quintanilla family culminates in a heartfelt celebration of Selena’s life and Mexican culture.  KL
