SL-1
Thematic 2001: Fast Forward Curated by Kent Jones
This almost unknown film offers a stark, poetic re-creation of the 1962 meltdown at SL-1, a nuclear reactor in Idaho Falls. The filmmakers explore every horrifying detail, over images shot in ominous slow motion and scored to the ambient music of Brian Eno. SL-1 does a magnificent job dramatizing the early naiveté around atomic power, the lack of understanding of the force that mankind had unleashed.
