NEW DOCS

For millions of gay men in the 1980s, being diagnosed with HIV was a death sentence. For Randy Baron, it wasn’t. Born with a rare genetic mutation that enables his body to resist the virus’s attacks on his cells, he has managed to maintain his health despite living with HIV for over two decades. This short documentary depicts his struggle to come to terms with survivor guilt as he watched his partner and close friends succumb to the disease; his body’s immunity ultimately led him to dedicate his life to education and activism. The film is both a meditation on loss and a moving portrait of the ways in which our own bodies can sometimes surprise us by beating the odds.  RM
