Stranded: I’ve come from a plane that crashed on the mountains
NEW DOCS
In October 1972, a Uruguayan rugby team hopped on board a plane headed to Chile, but they never made it to their destination. The plane crashed, and those who managed to emerge from the wreckage found themselves atop a glaciered peak in the Andes. Thirty-five years later, the sixteen survivors return to the fateful site to recount their harrowing story. They describe their early hopes for escape, their long nights tucked away in the fuselage, their difficult decision to eat their dead companions when supplies ran out, and their unlikely rescue—a full seventy-two days after the plane went down. Blending recreations and archival materials with intimate interviews, director Gonzalo Arijon tells this gripping tale of survival and camaraderie with both candor and sensitivity. SB
