Newark, New Jersey, is hotly contested territory in the 2002 battle to be mayor of the city. As young, idealistic Cory Booker, a Rhodes Scholar and Yale Law grad, campaigns against four-term incumbent Sharpe James, he comes up against a deeply entrenched political machine willing to lie, intimidate, and threaten its opponents into submission.
