The 3 Rooms of Melancholia
NEW DOCS
This poetic and nuanced documentary is divided into three chapters, the three rooms. They are all related to life in wartime, in this case the war in Chechnya. In the first room, lies the ritualistic lives of young cadets in a military academy as they prepare for future lives in battle. In the second room one observes a world wasted by war in the city of Grozny. Finally, the viewer is connected in the third room to a neighboring province and the emotional drama of a family fighting their own tragedy, once again related to the overall conflict. This spare and elegant movie is painful as it is uplifting with a score that will be remembered as long as its imagery. NB
