The Bend in the River
Invited
For nearly five decades, Robb Moss has filmed his close circle of friends, documenting a journey that began in the 1970s when they were river guides charting an unconventional course. Moss’s extraordinary images radiate with a sense of freedom as the group rafts through the Grand Canyon—exploring the wilderness naked, sleeping under the stars, and deciding as a collective where the next day will take them. The Bend in the River marks the third film that Moss has directed about this period in their lives and the years since—Riverdogs, made in 1982, and The Same River Twice, in 2003, were the first. This latest installment skillfully knits together footage from three points in time to take the viewer along across the decades. In asking his friends to reflect on the beginnings of their time together and the paths their lives have taken, Moss creates a moving meditation on the ways relationships evolve and time transforms.
