The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo

NEW DOCS

Filmmaker Lisa F. Jackson travels to the Democratic Republic of Congo to document the systematic use of rape as a weapon of war. With a steady eye and an open heart, Jackson, herself a gang rape survivor, connects with women and girls suffering daily from the physical and emotional wounds inflicted by sexual violence. Jackson interviews Congolese soldiers who admit to multiple rapes with shrugged shoulders and a chilling indifference. But as horrifying as these revelations are, it is in the moments of common understanding among the filmmaker and the women she encounters that the film speaks most clearly.  PB
