The Guestworker

NEW DOCS

Mexican workers are welcomed to North Carolina’s farms for long months of officially sanctioned exploitation; when the agricultural season is over, they go home to their families in Mexico. Informative, intimate and timely, The Guestworker is an understated advocacy film, allowing empathy for both the immigrant workers and their American farmer employers. This evenhanded approach is played out on several levels under the camera’s earnest eye: the farmers are at once callous and caring, for example; and screen time is divided between the Mexican and American characters.  NK
