The Life of Kevin Carter

NEW DOCS

As a young war photographer and a member of South Africa’s photojournalist/daredevil “Bang Bang Club,” Kevin Carter covered many horrors during and after the fall of apartheid. Carter won a Pulitzer Prize for his heartbreaking image of a vulture eyeing a weakened little girl in the Sudan. This short film has the shadings and layers of a longer treatise on the role of a documentarian. Must a photographer help every suffering individual he depicts, or is his larger responsibility to get a story told to a wide public? The film steers clear of a simplistic response to Kevin Carter’s life and death.  NK
