The Long Valley

A person in a dark jumpsuit washes a tractor trailor at night. The scene is partially illuminated by a bright golden light to the right.

NEW DOCS

Central California’s Salinas Valley is the setting for this contemplative and remarkably picturesque essay by filmmaking team Rodrigo Ojeda-Beck and Robert Machoian (Last Days of August). Long static takes, evocative compositions, a radiant palette, and a complex and moody sound design make up the filmic terrain for this lyrical record of the valley’s people and poignant observations. More seen than spoken, the film conjures up ancestry, agriculture, identity, and the poetics of a place and its people with a spirit and balladry reminiscent of another chronicler of Salinas, John Steinbeck.  TM
