The Personals

NEW DOCS

Keiko Ibi’s film probes the drama and comedy in the lives of a group of senior citizens in an improvisational theater group directed by an inspired acting teacher. In the heart of New York City, these Jewish men and women act out their loneliness and longings by dramatizing their own personal ads. Inspiring, sad and troubling, The Personals takes us on a journey with a group of adventurous aging Americans whose lives hold meaning for all of us. The work of Japanese director Ibi who did not practice Jewish culture, makes the revelations of her sensitive and probing film all the more remarkable.
