The Space You Leave

NEW DOCS

A meditation on loss and the pain of simply not knowing, this somber short film spends time with three parents whose children have gone missing. As one mother remarks, “I can’t understand missing. How can you be missing?” But in the United Kingdom, 200,000 people are reported missing each year. The film provides a glimpse of how these parents cope with the unimaginable: each survives on hope and optimism in different doses, struggling to define a new normal. Filmmaker James Newton allows the weight of each thought to settle, offering viewers time for reflection and empathy.  SB
