The Way I See It
Tribute Dawn Porter
For nearly two decades, Pete Souza had a front-row seat on history as Chief Official White House Photographer for both Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. Through his job, which required Souza to be invisible, he was able to capture iconic images of power, grief, grace, and quiet humanity in some of the most significant rooms on Earth. When Souza left the White House in 2017, his silence and invisibility ended. He now takes to Instagram to post candid moments from Obama’s years as president, juxtaposing them with commentary about the current administration. In The Way I See It, Souza guides us through his extraordinary archive, allowing each photo to speak for itself. What results is an examination of leadership, empathy, and the moral weight of bearing witness. KL
