Thin
NEW DOCS
A harrowing account of a group of young women struggling to overcome eating disorders at an inpatient rehabilitation facility. Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia affect millions of people in this country, particularly young women. Disordered body image remains, however, an unaddressed epidemic. In lush, vivid 35mm, this verité documentary makes public desperately intimate spaces: therapy sessions, purges, rebellions. Thin takes us into the lives of these women as their illusions of self-control are shattered, as they begrudgingly gain the weight necessary to survive, and as they attempt to end the battle against their bodies, all under the strict supervision and control of nutritionists, psychologists, and medical staff. The group of troubled and yet enormously brave women reminds us how little we know about these disorders and how complex recovery really is. ST
