Tomorrow

Thematic Southern Writers on Film Curated by Tom Rankin

Beautifully scripted by Horton Foote, Tomorrow tells a story of love, loss, generosity and perseverance. In Mississippi, a helpful, quiet farmer (Duvall) befriends a pregnant woman who wants him to care for her child if she dies in childbirth. As Duvall manages to capture the mannerisms, accent and speech syntax of his character and the region, Foote creates a powerfully realistic atmosphere for the era, lending a very documentary-like quality to this moving story.
