In 1934 Southern textile workers took the lead in what became the largest single industry strike in the history of the U.S. Winston Salem native documentarian George Stoney, along with filmmakers Judith Helfand and Susanne Rostock, spent nearly six years tracking down and interviewing surviving strikers in the South. Including personal testimony and archival footage of working conditions and the strike itself, Uprising of ’34 offers an unprecedented examination of this little-known event that shook the South, and then the nation.
