War Don Don

NEW DOCS

How does a society heal itself after the horrific abuses and crimes of a decade-long civil war? Closely watched by the entire country, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, in Freetown, tries to resolve crimes against humanity that took place amid the violent uprisings of the 1990s. Riveting footage documents the 2004-09 trial of Issa Sesay, the former commander of rebel forces. War Don Don makes the case that even the most reprehensible of war criminals deserve a fair trial. Indeed, the lead defense counsel, Wayne Jordash, is a hero in this film, which gives voice to all parties—victims, the accused, prosecutors, and defense attorneys.  NK
