Westray
NEW DOCS
In the late 1980s, itinerant coal miners flocked to Nova Scotia, lured by the sweet promise of 15 years guaranteed work in a state of the art mine. Five years later the mine exploded leaving 26 men dead. Westray is an intense inquiry into what went wrong and why the coal company refused to recognize the impending disaster. The film also explores why generations of miners risk “working the pits” despite the historic dangers. RYS
