Wet Dreams and False Images

NEW DOCS

Entering a seemingly average barbershop in Brooklyn, NY, filmmaker Jesse Epstein finds that a group of young, male entrepreneurs have adorned the walls of their establishment with magazine pin-ups from Maxim, FHM, Gear, GQ and the like. Her 11-minute short is as much about the attitude of the male gaze as it is about the marketplace of commercial illusion. It is a candid look at a normal, seductive, and disturbingly unreal part of visual culture. Bold and revealing, this film is true to its daring title.  LD
