Widow of the Revolution: The Anna Larina Story

NEW DOCS

Born into a life of privilege, Anna Larina was both a daughter and a widow of Soviet founding fathers. Anna Larina’s story encompasses the tragic period of Russia’s history from 1917-1991, a period when the country was beset with revolution, civil war, famine, mass terror, war and repression. When her husband was arrested in 1937 and executed in 1938 as an “enemy of the people,” Anna was cast into the Gulag of prison cells, forced labor camps and Siberian exile for twenty years. Finally liberated in 1959, she spent thirty years working to have her martyred husband’s name cleared. His rehabilitation opened the floodgates of historical truth-telling and led to the erosion of the Soviet ideology. This is an unforgettable portrait of a legendary woman and the stormy times through which she lived.
