Windfall

NEW DOCS

If you think that wind turbines are a cleaner and safer purveyor of energy than nuclear plants, then Windfall will likely change your views: the rural town of Meredith, NY, is now torn apart by the recent development of an industrial wind farm. Of course, money is at the core of the problem. Struggling with their farms and poor income, Meredith landowners have allowed the developer to lease their land. But these 400-feet-high wind turbines spinning their blades at 150 miles an hour have drastically altered an idyllic setting: the low-frequency sound of their rotating blades is an unbearable sonic pollution that causes a host of medical problems to those living nearby. Film director Laura Israel gives voice to the local residents, exposing the seemingly irreconcilable differences that are now dividing a town that was once a peaceful community.  JW
