Window Cleaner
Thematic Score! Music and Documentary Curated by D A Pennebaker
Window Cleaner is a charming Office of War Information (OWI) short designed to present the common man of America. Following a window cleaner on his rounds of skyscrapers in New York City, the film combines his chummy narration set to a jazz soundtrack with dizzying views from the uppermost stories of Manhattan. Amiable and humorous, he defines OWI’s jingoism well when he states, “I remember a customer who said to me one day, “My dear fellow, you’re as much a part of the American scene as the skyscrapers themselves.” (MoMA Circulating Film Library Catalog)
