Women of the Wall

NEW DOCS

Filmed in Jerusalem at the Western Wall, the most sacred shrine of Judaism, this provocative film takes us into the heart of a ten-year struggle by Jewish religious women to pray openly and publicly at the Wall. To the most orthodox Jews, women praying as men pray at the Wall is sacrilege, an affront to Jewish tradition and law. For the devout women who range from “modern orthodox” to “liberal reform” Jews, praying at the Wall is an act of religious faith, part of Jewish heritage. In this shockingly presented struggle at the Wall, one sees a larger battle played out in Israeli society that will ultimately determine the roles of women and men in the Jewish homeland.
