The compelling and evocative music of Yo La Tengo may be the perfect band to accompany the films of Jean Painlevé, the cinematic pioneer whose films of the early 1900s revealed an underwater world of bizarre creatures and abstract beauty. Artists as wide ranging as Frédéric Chopin, Duke Ellington, Darius Milhaud and Man Ray wrote the original compositions that accompanied Painlevé’s impressionistic images. Yo La Tengo’s new score, with its melodic harmonies and atmospheric soundscapes, played live.
